Michael J Moritz Jr was involved with NBC's The Wiz Live! as an executive producer of the album. This production was the third live musical airing on NBC when it premiered on December 3, 2015. The album was made available on December 18, 2015. The live musical event starred such names as Queen Latifah, Common, Ne-Yo, Mary J. Blige, David Allen Grier, Uzo Aduba, and introducing Shanice Williams as Dorothy.
